During the Asia House Program you will work within teams of consultants serving our clients in Europe and Asia. The overall program lasts two to three years. You will start at our Asia House in Frankfurt or Paris. After about one year (12 to 18 months), you will move on to deepen your expertise at McKinsey in Asia and have the chance to be promoted, with further opportunities for advancement at McKinsey all the way up to partner.

With its cross-regional approach, the Asia House Program is especially designed for creating closer connections in a wider world. At the start of the program, you have the option of living in our Asia House apartments available in Asia House Frankfurt with other consultant - your peer group - and will be embedded in the Asian communities from the start of your McKinsey career.

You will have the opportunity to work with team members from a variety of nationalities. In projects based in Europe, your team will generally be composed of other European consultants while engagements in Asia are usually staffed with a mixture of consultants from the East and West. As one of the aims of Asia House is for Asian consultants to gain experience in serving clients in Europe, Asia House members have the option but are not obliged to serve clients in their home countries during their stay at the European Asia House.

Ample support and coaching form an integral part of the program and our basic approach to working in teams. Furthermore, you will be accompanied throughout the program by two colleagues of key importance:

• A peer, one of our consultants, who has already gained experience within McKinsey and can still recall his or her first steps.
• A mentor, one of our experienced partners, who will help you build your professional and personal strengths and achieve your development objectives step by step.

For your professional development, you will have numerous opportunities to train your general business capabilities. In addition, our industry- and function-specific training will help you to broaden your knowledge in your fields of interest. Generally, formal training programs will complement your on-the-job training in the context of ongoing study assignments.

Asia House consultants have the opportunity to participate in supplementary training modules over and above regular consultant training. Intercultural communication workshops give most consultants their first in-depth training in working with Europeans in particular. Several communication trainings hone presentation and speaking skills, while optional weekly language lessons are useful for adjusting to the local environment.

How your career advances depends entirely on your performance. At the end of each engagement and every six months, experienced consultants will evaluate your progress. This process is fair and conducted in a systematic way at all McKinsey offices worldwide. Our requirements for advancement are successful client work and regular contributions to building our knowledge base. In addition, we take into account your professionalism and personal development potential.

Depending on the level at which you will join McKinsey, you may be leading engagement teams within two to three years. By the fourth year, top performers are generally promoted to the position of Associate Principal, which allows them to share directly in the financial success of the firm. After the fifth or sixth year, they may be invited to share in the ownership of the firm as a partner.

As an Asia House member, in general, you are expected to stay 12 to 18 months at Asia House Frankfurt or Paris and afterwards transfer back to one of our offices in Asia. Once in Asia, you have the opportunities that all consultants do in terms of mobility: engagements mostly in Asia but also internationally, fixed-term office exchanges, as well as permanent relocation to another office, depending on your capabilities and the firm's needs.
