McKinsey strives to be the benchmark for excellence in the art of management. While many management concepts pioneered in other countries are applicable in Asia, succeeding in this region requires a deep understanding of the unique characteristics of its markets. Conversely, a key challenge is also to serve our Asian clients, bringing to them our knowledge of how Europe works in its business environments.
Therefore, to complement the knowledge gained from our client work, we also regularly conduct research on the topics that are of greatest interest to business leaders operating in these regions. We do so with the help of a dedicated Asia House research team, which provides continual support on economic analyses, cross-border requests as well as independent publications.
One of our first ad hoc initiatives has led to the Asia House Chemicals Day, where we shared best practices, industry knowledge, and challenges with top clients and across the firm. Among the recent publications of our research team is the Perspectives on China series, which includes the volumes "Economic Development and the Business Environment for Foreign Investors," "Investing in China's Regions," and "Talent Management in China."
McKinsey's best knowledge efforts are published in leading newspapers and magazines such as the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Fortune as well as our own McKinsey Quarterly. We also occasionally take part in knowledge events, seminars, and discussion panels. As an example, in January 2006, Asia House Fellow Lingling Cao participated in a seminar held by the China Competence Centrum in Düsseldorf, giving a presentation on "The (Chinese) Supplier - (German) Buyer Relationship and Cultural Differences." |
